Reports Of My Death Are Greatly Exaggerated

During the last week there has been a lot of hype and hysteria in the media by people who don’t know any better (and some that should know better) regarding the supposed ‘death’ of Windows 7.

On 14th January mainstream support for Microsoft Windows 7 officially ceased, and many people are incorrectly interpreting that as the complete end of support for Windows 7, fortunately they are wrong!

The end of Mainstream Support means that as of 14th January 2015 Microsoft will no longer provide new features, product updates, and free technical support, other than web based support via their knowledge base and forum.

What you will still get are security update for another five years, so any critical security patches, bug fixes, etc will still be patched, so it will still be safe to use Windows 7 on the internet right up until January 14th 2020.
